You’ve got a science story to tell...

but don’t know how to tell it?

About me

I am a communicator with a passion for particle physics and over 20 years’ experience of communicating science. My background in the arts and in journalism helps me understand what the target audience understands.

Armed with a master’s degree in English and German literature and language and five years of experience in freelancing I was ready to conquer the arts pages of national newspapers.

But sometimes life takes funny turns.

A chance three-month internship in the press office at CERN in Geneva introduced me to a whole new and deeply fascinating world: particles, forces, detectors, colliders, people with a real passion for their science and a thirst for knowledge. Three months turned into two years; I organised a science teaching festival, helped restructure the homepage of the lab where the web was born and wrote about life at CERN. This is when my lifelong passion for particle physics, its science and its people took root.

I moved from Geneva to Leiden in the Netherlands to join the European Space Agency as Scientific and Technical Editor. Specialising in education-related publications, I edited teaching kits about the International Space Station, ran the EDUnews newsletter, wrote news for the ESA Bulletin and edited scientific and general-public publications. And guess what? Space became another passion of mine. I even took science classes at the Open University to learn more.

Next stop: Space

Colliding passions

But the call of particle physics was strong. So strong in fact that I gave up the permanent position at ESA to dive headfirst into a new adventure: communicating the International Linear Collider, a planned particle accelerator to complement CERN’s LHC. My station: DESY in Hamburg. I became part of the DESY PR team specialising in all things particle physics – from exhibitions and open days to art meet science events, communicating the German contributions to CERN and the LHC.

After 15 happy, exciting and rewarding years the pandemic hit and it was time to reshuffle priorities. Since August 2021 I am a freelancer, ready to take on your communication challenges!

I am also mother of one, member of a patchwork family, dogowner, catperson, sourdough baker, book lover, woodcut fan, book sniffer, inept gardener and devotee of wordplay. I love the sea, the mountains and the sounds and smells of early summer mornings.
